South Carolina Gets a New Area Code!

September 8, 2015 by Taylor Agency Staff

Local News:

You may or may not know already, but South Carolina residents in the 843 area code are getting an additional new area code (854) . As the 843 area code numbers run out of new numbers, all telephone companies will begin giving out new 854 numbers. As a result of this “overlay” area code, on September 19th, everyone in our area will be required to dial the full 10 digit telephone number to make any calls. This includes calling your pizza parlor next door.

What does this mean for you?

-You may need to update your cell phone contact lists now to include area codes.

-Review and update any speed dial settings you may have programmed on your phone.

-Remember all inbound and outbound faxes will now have to include the area code.

-Even though there will be no new long distance fees, if you are in doubt, feel free to use our toll free number: 1-800-933-1805

Happy dialing out there!

Sarah Johnson, Intern – Columbia College

July 8, 2015 by Taylor Agency Staff

Taylor Agency remains committed to ongoing professional development. This core value acknowledges that expertise can only be derived from experience and ongoing education. As a result, we encourage our employees to continually seek out professional improvement, including industry specific designations like CPCU, CIC, AAI, ARM, CRM, CISR, DIA, etc.

In the same manner, we also actively embrace the young professionals who are new to the business world. We do so by offering internship opportunities with the potential for future employment. Currently, our internship opportunities have brought us Sarah Johnson from Columbia College.

Sarah Johnson

“While interning at the Taylor Agency I have been able to immerse myself in both the insurance business and the professional inner workings of an office environment. I am receiving hands on, real world experience in the business field, preparing me for entering the work force upon graduation. I have really been given the chance to evaluate what I have learned throughout my college career and prepare for things that I need to focus on in order to pursue a successful career. The Taylor Agency has been tremendously helpful in giving me a variety of tasks, providing the support and experience of other members within the agency to make this an incredible internship opportunity.” – Sarah Johnson

Taylor Agency is Mrs. Johnson’s first-time exposure to the business world within a professional office setting, and we are excited to be able to offer her firsthand experience in all aspects of the day to day business practices of an independent insurance agency. Currently, Sarah is an active Columbia College senior working to obtain her undergraduate degrees in Communication Studies and Psychology. Upon obtaining her degrees this Fall, she desires to enter the workforce in the fields of Human Resources and/or Public Relations.

Sarah describes herself as a passionate communicator who is sensitive to the needs of others especially when resolving conflicts. During her brief time here, we would describe her as having a well-groomed work ethic, sharp organizational skills, and an aptitude for quickly applying new skills efficiently. We are proud to have her.

Welcome to the team, Sarah!

Personal Effects and Theft

January 5, 2015 by Taylor Agency Staff

There’s no predicting what your employees will bring to work. The briefcases of today’s employees easily can contain thousands of dollars worth of electronics. It’s not hard to imagine a laptop loaded with software and business data, an iPod, an iPhone and a mini-digital camera all in one brief case. Poof! Gone! In single, sticky-finger moment, this pricey equipment and all its even more valuable data—stolen.

A standard commercial property insurance policy will extend coverage for business personal property to the personal effects and property of others. However, there are two very important limitations:

1. Coverage for the personal effects and property of others has a separate coverage limit.
Without an endorsement, the standard commercial property policy has a limit for personal effects and property of others that may be significantly less than the business personal property limit shown on the policy’s declarations page. For example, the policy may include $100,000 for business personal property coverage but limit the amount payable for personal effects and property of others to $2500.

2. Coverage for personal effects and property of others does not apply to theft. That one can hurt.

Many businesses reduce their liability risk for uncovered losses of personal property by posting signs that indicate that the business is not responsible for personal items. Others carry an endorsement on their commercial property insurance that specifically closes the gaps left by a standard policy.

Call our service team for suggestions on how to minimize your business’ risk exposure for the loss of personal items on your property.
